Publisher Description:
My Mother's Words is the first in a series of five volumes of work on African proverbs. It is a special edition book focusing on my life with my mother as I was growing up. It contains a collection of frequently used proverbs by my mother and serves as a link that bound me with my mother. It is meant to serve as a link that also binds people of African descent to our ancestral legacy. These proverbs have formed the bedrock of my being, and I have held on to them through my social and professional life. This collection is intended to enkindle interest in all peoples of the world and create an awareness of the power of our ancestral spoken words.Growing up, I listened to my mother's words. They meant a lot to me and still do to this day. It is my hope that everyone who reads this book can find some words in these narratives that will also be useful to them. More importantly, there is a saying that one should make hay while the sun is still shining. If you still have your mother, let her know that her words mean a lot to you and you appreciate her words of wisdom. As you read this book, I would like to hear from you about these proverbs and the circumstances around which my mother spoke them. Do any of the incidents provoke any memories? Let me hear your thoughts. Our reflections, thoughts, and memories enrich our ancestral legacy and blessings. We are each other's strength.
