Publisher Description:
Incredibly, millions of African American women are losing their hair. What's even more remarkable about this finding is that it's the conditioned behavior (namely, the pursuit of straight hair) that's causing them to suffer their misfortune As I am well aware of the fact that any Black infatuation with having straight hair is a late phenomenon, I have little choice but to try to address this matter. Yet, at the outset let me say that I won't be brow-beating African American women for sho'nuff not wanting to have "Nappy-Hair." Rather, I shall attempt to bring some perspective to the subject of Black hair. Accordingly, I shall employ four spheres of study in this discussion; i.e., history, anatomy, spirituality, and psychology. In closing, it is my hope that the ensuing pages about Black hair will not only prove life affirming-but useful . . .
