Publisher Description:
The Cyber Security Research Institute at Norwich University brings you the 2016 Annual Report of Top Cyber Security Incidents. 2016 will be remembered as the year the Russians hacked the U.S. Presidential election. However, the year's cyber security incidents were much more than the information operation wage by the Russians. As you will read in the book we witnessed the first large scale Internet of Things (IOT) attack that affected a large swatch of the Internet and many significant online retailers. The National Security Agency was compromised and it's cyber weapons were used in what could have been a devastating Ransomware attack. Over 1 billion accounts were affected when Yahoo was attacked, and another 385 million MySpace accounts were compromised. This year we examined 15 cyber security incidents. In addition to those mentioned above, we reviewed breaches at LinkedIn, Wendy's, and Uber. Both the Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service were attacked, as well as Verizon, MedStar Health, and Adult Friend Finder. Social networking sites Tumblr and MySpace were compromised, and no review of 2016 would complete without examining the controversy of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.
