Publisher Description: Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Amphibians, such as frogs, salamanders, and caecilians, are ectothermic (or cold-blooded) animals that metamorphose from a juvenile water-breathing form, either to an adult air-breathing form, or to a paedomorph that retains some juvenile characteristics. Mudpuppies, for example, retain juvenile gills in adulthood. The three modern orders of amphibians are Anura including frogs and toads, Caudata including salamanders and newts, and Gymnophiona including caecilians and limbless amphibians that resemble snakes. This book studies amphibians including ecological indicator, buccal pumping, habitat destruction, frogs, and salamanders. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge. |
