Publisher Description:
This book is written to be a basic guide for independent travel to Europe. It is not meant to provide an encyclopedic orientation, but rather to be a primer on travel. It delineates a basic core of practical lessons important to the independent traveler. Our goal in travel is primarily the submersion and absorption of the local culture, not necessarily to see every identifiable point of interest. These lessons present a realistic expectation for the traveler. It is not museum oriented. Many excellent books, with this viewpoint, already exist. Planning a European trip needs to be initiated long before the actual trip. For some personal physical limitations need to be evaluated when formulating these plans. This book is written by a retired pulmonary physician and his office manager. Topics include medical aspects of travel. This unusual approach to travel writing adds insight to the experience. A prepared traveler is a better traveler. Knowledge of medical issues related to travel benefits all readers. Having an awareness of these general medical issues should enhance every reader's journey.
