Contributor Bio(s): Sanchez, Nancy Lee: - Nancy Lee Sanchez is the Executive Director for the Kaplan Educational Foundation. With over 20 years of expertise providing greater access to higher education, improving the college experience, and supporting leadership among low-income, underrepresented, and non-traditional students, Sanchez has designed and implemented the Foundation's advisement model for transfer students seeking to transfer from community colleges to the nation's most highly selective schools. Sanchez has an associate's degree in early childhood education from Kingsborough Community College, a bachelor's degree in education from Long Island University, and a master's in sociology from Brooklyn College. As a 2014 National Hispanic Executive Leadership Fellow, Nancy completed an Executive Leadership Program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Leadership Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina. Nancy was born in Puerto Rico and moved to New York City at age twelve. She now resides in Brooklyn, New York. The Kaplan Educational Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity, seeks to eliminate barriers to higher education for overlooked and underserved students and develop them as world leaders and advocates for their communities by providing a comprehensive array of financial and academic support, transfer admissions, advising and leadership skills development. Through the Kaplan Leadership Program, we help underrepresented, low-income Black, Latino and Native American students of exceptional merit transfer from associate's degree programs to top four-year colleges, while preparing them to succeed academically and assume leadership roles in their professions and communities.
