Publisher Description: 1955 holds many fond memories for senior citizens. They remember little league, scouting events, parades, lining up at school for polio shots, and the dedication their parents had to fraternal organizations. In the small town of Portola, water rationing was a common summer event and the first dip in the new swimming pool was unforgettable. Bertha Miller began a photo studio in Portola and in 1955 she became a news correspondent for the Sacramento Bee. She took photos and wrote articles about many of the activities and events. Her daughter C. L. Neely has kept her negatives and articles and shares them here. The book contains over 350 of Bertha Miller's photos reproduced from her negatives. It contains a complete index of every name and place found in the book, an is enlarged print. |
