Publisher Description:
The California Civil Liberties Advocacy (CCLA) tallied the 2015 voting outcomes of all 120 members of the California State Legislature, plus Governor Jerry Brown. The ratings were based on a sample of eleven bills covering a range of issues, including individual privacy, due process, freedom of speech, law enforcement accountability, suspect profiling, and civil asset forfeiture. Each lawmaker was assigned a final grade (e.g. "A+", "B-", and etc.) As this scorecard illustrates, personal freedoms and liberties are at stake every legislative session. Inequality and inconsistencies in the law can be and often are addressed by our state's law makers. According to the California Secretary of State, only 42.2% of eligible voters turned out for the general election in 2014. Many citizens have become apathetic, feeling their vote doesn't really count. But as the information in this booklet illustrates, neglecting to vote and hold California's lawmakers accountable can impact individual liberty, either for good or for bad. Hold your State Assemblymember or Senator accountable by arming yourself with the information contained in this booklet and start holding them accountable now
