Publisher Description:

Birdie is a petrel who flies over the ocean with his flock. After he tires from taking the lead, he finds he is all alone--not a bird in sight. All he sees above him is the blue sky, and below him, he sees the ocean. He decides to continue flying west. He made a few stops along the way, eventually reaching Stradbroke Island--just off the coast of Queensland. He met up with some friendly seagulls, which looked after him. He enjoyed his stay on the island but felt that his home was with his family, back on New Zealand soil. So with the help of the seagulls, he found a way to go home.
