The advancing denomination, with natural and inherited ""antagonism to slavery,"" attracted ""freedmen, seeking spiritual freedom,"" including the famous black Abolitionist activists--Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass, who learned and honed his rhetorical skills as an exhorter in the A.
