Publisher Description:
An observant passerby stumbles upon human atrocities that are hard to imagine. A mentally handicapped family is held in horrific conditions, without the amenities of running water, bathroom facilities, etc. that we as Americans take for granted. Death overtakes one young man and threatens his other family members. Greed is evidently the motive for this caretaker as the government checks are diverted for her personal use. It took eighteen years before anyone took the time to really observe what was happening on the side of a highway in South Louisiana. Racial issues came into play as the local sheriff did his best to keep this story from public scrutiny. No charges were ever brought due to the death of the caretaker and the age of her husband. There are profound lessons to observe here. Not all people are good. Greed has caused many to fall into the pit of abuse and apathy of others. The goal for this book is to bring the reader to a greater awareness of what is happening around them. When abuse or neglect is taking place, don't look the other way or cross to the other side of the street.
