Publisher Description: If you're a kid who's gluten-free, Be all that you would like to be. It's just a part of who you are, You're still a bright and shining star This book gives young children a simple way of understanding what it means to have celiac disease. It gives them the language to talk to their friends about this important aspect of who they are, while helping them to see that the condition does not define them. |
Contributor Bio(s): Oestreich, Laurie: - Laurie Kronish Oestreich, L.C.S.W., is a child and family therapist in New York City. She wrote this book right after her granddaughter, Zoe, turned two years old and was diagnosed with celiac disease. The book is intended to increase awareness and encourage early diagnosis of celiac disease, while also providing young children with the vocabulary needed to begin to understand and explain this condition. Ultimately, the poetic text strikes the balance between acknowledging the realities of celiac disease and celebrating the child as a whole and wonderful person. |
