Publisher Description:
The Complete Songs is the most comprehensive collection of works for voice and piano by the noted American composer, Dr. Peter A. Petroff. Most of the works were written in the late 1990's though there are also works from the second decade of the twenty-first century, notably Songs of the Past Long Forgot, and the two duets for Soprano and Tenor: Pixie Dust and No One Can Keep the Sun from Rising. Most of the songs are classical and intended for performance in a recital setting. A few of the pieces such as La Llorona, Lullaby, and One Day, One Day are intended for a wider audience Two oratorios for Tenor (or Baritone) with Piano are included as well: Lamentations and Songs of the Past Long Forgot. The former is based on the Old Testament; the latter is based on ancient Chinese poems dating from more than a thousand years ago. Dr. Petroff was born in 1942. He has written extensively for solo piano as well as chamber music. His first piano concerto was performed in Krakow with Nina Drath and the piano. The American premier was in Waco, Texas. His first violin sonata was performed at Texas State University in 2012 by Shijun Chen. His first Cello Sonata was performed in 2017 by McKinley Glasser at Cleveland State University. Many of his compositions have been performed throughout the world. Dr. Petroff's music is published by RBC Music as well as Vivace Press. Several CD's of his music are also available. He recently published a biography of Franz Liszt and the Romantic Era in Classical Music entitled Lisztomania which is available from Amazon.com.
