Publisher Description: This is the first book dedicated to the Chinese Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Liu Xiaobo. He died of cancer on 13 July 2017 while serving a 11-year jail sentence for advocating democracy. His ashes were then cast into the ocean in a sea burial hastily arranged by the Communist government. The articles collected in the book, most of which are written by Chinese scholars, prodemocracy and human rights activists, Dr. Liu's colleagues and friends, focus on his life, death, and legacy. The book is edited by Cai Chu, one of Dr. Liu's long-time colleagues, and prefaced by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as well as Perry Link and Zhang Zuhua. The book is jointly published by Democratic China and the Institute for China's Democratic Transition. Democratic China is a NGO founded by Dr. Liu Xiaobo. Liu Xiaobo once served as Democratic China's president and Editor-In-Chief of Democratic China Electronic Journal. The Institute for China's Democratic Transition is a non-profit think tank and educational organization based in the United States working to prepare for and facilitate the transformation of China into a democracy with free market economy. |
