Publisher Description:
Professor George Grube was the unusual combination of professor and politician. Although never elected as a politician, he ran several times in the Toronto Broadview riding against the popular Tommy Church. George's academic work is very successful & he was one of the outstanding classicists in Canada. His books are still adopted by many universities' classics in translation courses in the United States. His royalties are outstanding. Several times American classics departments tried to lure him away, but money could not dislodge him from his devotion to the CCF (the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation). Also, he said 3 countries were enough: Belgium where he was born, England where he received his education and Canada where he spent most of his working life. His last political act was to be one of the chairmen of the founding convention of the New Democratic Party.
