Publisher Description: Trophic ulceration of the foot and changes in the bony architecture of the foot is an expression of lesions common to widely diverse diseases, like leprosy, diabetes mellitus, tabes dorsalis, neurosyphillis, syringomyelia, spina bifida, peripheral nerve injury and neural defects etc. Disorganization of the Bony architecture of the foot in plantar defects basically results form two reasons. First, disease like leprosy (lepromatus granuloma) and diabetes mellitus (systemic metabolic disorder) lead to bony destruction. It is called primary or aseptic destruction. Second, bony destruction also results from neuro-vascular changes infection and repetitive trauma is called secondary or septic disorganization. Present study reports our experiences in the study of bony architecture in plantar defects. |
