Political actors persistently avail themselves of accusations of betrayal or treason, used with a specific lexical stock and relying on traditional cultural concepts of betrayal. This book analyzes the discourse of betrayal within leftist political parties during the Weimar Republic from 1918 to 1920 from the perspective of linguistic discourse-analysis. The subject matter is a discourse-based reconstruction of the central concept of betrayal as developed by the Majority Social Democratic Party of Germany (MSPD), the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD), and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in the relevant period of upheaval in the first years of the first German republic. The source material is comprised of pamphlets, proclamations, speeches, diaries as well as literary texts. With the help of the analytical tool of linguistic discourse analysis, this book investigates the lexical-semantic web of the concept of betrayal, the meaning of the category upheaval as well as the imagery and stereotypes on which the discursive participation serially relied in the Weimar Republic. German description: 'Verrat' ist ein omniprasentes Konzept in politischen Diskursen. Immer wieder bedienen sich politische Akteure des Verratsvorwurfs, benutzen dabei ein spezifisches lexikalisches Inventar und greifen auf tradierte kulturwissenschaftliche Konzepte von 'Verrat' zuruck. Exemplarisch wird in diesem Band der Verratsdiskurs innerhalb des linken Parteienspektrums in der Weimarer Republik von 1918 bis 1920 analysiert. Die Perspektive der Untersuchung ist die der linguistischen Diskursanalyse. Thematischer Gegenstand ist hierbei die diskursbasierte Rekonstruktion der zentralen Verratskonzepte der Mehrheitssozialdemokraten (MSPD), der Unabhangigen Sozialdemokraten (USPD) und der Kommunistischen Partei (KPD) in der demokratiegeschichtlich relevanten Umbruchzeit in den Anfangsjahren der ersten deutschen Republik. Das Untersuchungskorpus umfasst Flugblatter, Aufrufe, Reden, Tagebucher und auch literarische Texte. Mithilfe eines diskurslinguistischen Analyseinstrumentariums wird das lexikalisch-semantische Netz des Konzepts 'Verrat', die Bedeutung der Kategorie 'Umbruch' sowie die Metaphorik und Stereotypie, auf die die Diskursbeteiligten seriell im Weimarer Verratsdiskurs zuruckgreifen, erforscht. |
