INTRODUCTION. A progressive book. After years of practice with children and beginners, I have had the idea of making this book, so as to put together all the melodies that I generally ask my students to study. It is very progressive, and the first pages are really made for the very first stages. Originally, I did this because all the books that I had tried were not progressive enough, and the children were often frustrated by the difficulty. I have tried all the melodies with my students, over a period of 10-15 years, and saw that they managed, stage after stage, to improve at their pace, and get over the first obstacles that are so discouraging for so many people. I am talking about students of all ages (from 4 years old on...). Tablature or standard music notation? This book can be practiced with tablature, or with the standard music notation, also known as solf ge. It is bilingual . I generally use the first option with my students because I feel it gives faster results, and then, after a few weeks/months, depending on their profile (if they want to play rock or classical music, the goals they have...), I make them switch to standard music notation. Or not. But with the children, with no clear musical goals (that commonly appear during teenagehood, around 12/15 years old), I normally use solf ge, for it's clarity and structure, among other reasons. For self-taught students or with a teacher? Both are possible. Although this book is meant to be practiced with a teacher, at least with someone who can show you how the melodies are supposed to sound like. But it can also give good results if you are alone, once you understand how to read tablatures, or standard music notation. Known melodies or originals? Both. Half of those melodies are traditional melodies, that a lot of people know beforehand, which makes it more enjoyable to practice. But sometimes, so as to fill a void regarding a difficulty to overcome, an original composition was required.
