Publisher Description:
Wim Hinkel, a 32 year old gay man, had known he was adopted since he was 4 years old. He'd been raised by his German-heritage parents and always he assumed he too was of German heritage. On his birthday, home from Manhattan where he worked in an upscale advertising firm, his adopted parents handed him a letter. And his whole concept of who he was changed forever. His biological mother was of European descent, but his father was a full-blooded Native American of the Hidatsa tribe.

Frank Schumacher's roman clef recounts Wim's discoveries of his true past. In this funny, moving and satisfying novel, Schumacher describes Wim's adventures in going "home," meeting the tribe of his birth father, and coming to love and be loved by his unexpected, extended family, members of the Prairie Chicken clan.

Frank Schumacher (September 16, 1961-July 13, 2019) lived in San Francisco where he worked in advertising. Publishing this book was the project he always said he was going to finish someday. When he didn't live long enough, friends who loved him took over and have completed his work. Frank took great pride in being an upper baritone with the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to the SFGMC in his memory.
