Publisher Description:
Cycling in Japan's Fuji/Hakone/Izu National Park rewards cyclists with challenging climbs, breathtaking views, wonderful topography, delicious local cuisine along with a gracious and friendly culture. This book focuses on the Izu Peninsula, Mt. Fuji and Hakone areas due to their proximity to Tokyo, the iconic Mt. Fuji, the sheer beauty of the region and that most climbs (especially in Izu) can be accessed year round. The main focus of the book includes all the key climbs (and some hidden ones) within the three locations. The Izu peninsula (approximately 92km in length and 46km in width) is then further broken down into 5 sections (North, East, South East, West and South West). Each climb includes pictures of the key points in the climb, beginning and end of the climb, climb data (average gradient, length, altitude, maximum gradient) as well as road conditions, traffic, views and key notes. The 2021 Olympics Road Race key climb (Mikuni Pass) and the Izu Velodrome where the track races will be held are also included in the book. The book is an invitation, postcard and reference guide for both visitors and local residents. In addition to the key climbs, the book also includes general travel trips, road advice for cyclists (including major connecting roads between climbs), suggested routes and types of animals that one may encounter while out on the road. The next book in this series (Top 101 Cycling Climbs in Japan) is expected to be completed by early next summer. Safe riding.
