The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

The story begins in Basil Hallward's art studio discussing current paintings with witty and moral friend Lord Henry Wotton. Henry thought that the painting should be portrayed as a portrait of a particularly beautiful young man. But Basil disagreed, fearing that Dorian Gray would be fascinated by his portraits. Then Dorian arrived, and he was amazed when Henry explained his belief that a person should live life to the fullest by letting the impulse. Henry also pointed out that beauty and youth were fleeting, and Dorian announced that he would give his soul if the image grew old and wrinkled while he was young and handsome. Basil gave Dorian a drawing.

Henry decides to do Dorian's personality molding project. A few weeks later, Dorian told Henry that he fell in love with actress Sibyl Vane because of her beauty and acting talent. Henry and Basil went with him to the filthy theater to see Sibyl, but her performance was terrible. Sibyl explained to Dorian that now that she knew what true love was, she couldn't pretend she fell in love on stage. Longer Dorian is angry and doesn't want to do anything to her anymore. When he returned home, he saw a brutal expression on the face of his portrait, and he decided to ask Sibyl for forgiveness. Henry arrived the next day, however, news of Sibyl committed suicide the night before. And he consoled Dorian that there was no reason for him to feel bad about it.

Dorian brought the portrait to his attic. Henry sent Dorian a book that was found to be toxic and interesting. (Critics suggest the book might be Against the Grain by Joris-Karl Huysmans.) Under the influence of the book, Dorian spent the next 18 years hunting for indiscriminate and diseased surpluses, and he was drawn to it. More and more wickedly, he would often look at portraits, noting the signs of aging and corruption appearing, even though he himself was not tainted.

One evening he ran into Basil, who told him there were rumors that he had ruined many people's lives and fame. However, Dorian refused to accept the blame. Basil declared that he did not know Dorian explicitly, who responded by taking He went to the attic to see the portrait. The painting turned into a frightening sight. Basil tells Dorian that if this is a reflection of his soul, he needs to repent and pray for forgiveness, and Basil suddenly murdered Dorian. He blackmailed another ex to get rid of the body.

Dorian goes to the opium cave where Sybil's spiteful brother James meets him. But the fact that Dorian was still very young prevented him from acting. Yet another benefactor of the cave revealed Dorian's age. At a hunting party at Dorian's country estate, a hunter accidentally shoots and kills James, who is hiding in the underbrush.

Several weeks later, Dorian told Henry that he had made up his mind to be a good guy and recently decided not to take advantage of a young girl who was beaten by him. Dorian goes to see if portraits improve due to his dignified performance. But he seems witty. He decided to destroy the portrait and stab it with a knife. His servants heard a scream, and when they arrived, they saw a disgusting old man dead on the ground with a knife on his chest and a portrait of the beautiful young man he had been.
