Publisher Description:

This 36-page book for 6-12 year olds shows it is OK to be different. "Where Do Odd Socks Go?" is a metaphor for what kids perceive life to be like; a sporty kid, a skinny kid, a gay kid, a kid that is bullied, a poor kid, a smelly kid and a disabled kid. The book teases out the threads of caring, cultural difference and belonging, challenging the realities of abandonment and dogmatism. Yvonne says Odd Socks is "for the Syrian orphans", whose terrible experiences haunted and inspired her to write a book with meaning about humanity, caring and cultural difference.

Contributor Bio(s): Hackett, Yvonne: - Have you ever wondered where do odd socks go? Yvonne has for most of her life. So much so, she's written a 36-page book for 5 to 11-year-olds. Yvonne draws on her experience as a human rights advocate and a carer for children to take kids on a journey to Egypt, where socks began. The main characters are a twin girl and boy, with equal strength and intelligence. "I love kids, their imagination, their endless curiosity," she says. "I wrote the book because on the surface I wanted to create characters which are fun and relatable, concurrently showing a story that it is okay to be different."Herbert, Sunshine: - Hello, my name is Sunshine. Welcome to my website! I'm an illustrator, artist, speaker and day dreamer based in Melbourne, Australia. I like to think I'm like a painting ninja! I'm lucky enough to live and breath exciting stories everyday. I guess that's why I love creating children's books. I would describe my work as whimsical, yet surprising! I put a lot of intense emotions and personalities into my work, my characters live their own lives most of the time. I have an ever growing collection of Children's Book titles under my belt, my commissions are slowly taking over the world, my miniature illustration army (aka school children from my workshops) are sharpening their pencils, and yet I still have time to fit some of my own work in. I love to paint, I love inspiring others to paint (seriously I believe everyone can paint!) and I've started a Youtube Channel! Let's do some painting together!
