Publisher Description:
Since the first edition of Advanced Fibre-reinforced Polymer (FRP) Composites for Structural Applications was published in 2013, a significant amount of new research has been carried out worldwide on the use of FRP composites for structural applications. These include: - the further development of advanced FRP composites materials, that achieve lighter and stronger FRP composites; enhancing FRP integrated behaviour through matrix modification, and pretension treatment and intelligence technology. The development of new technology such as automated manufacturing and processing of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have played a significant role in optimising fabrication processing and matrix formation.

There has also been value-added, high volume product development and the utilization of recycled engineering polymers. Composites properties and performance have also been further enhanced through optimisation of composites matrix integration. More sophisticated non-destructive testing / evaluation techniques and tools have been developed with modern digital and intelligent technology. FRP composites are noncorrosive products with higher strength to weight ratios than conventional materials. FRPs also provide eco-efficient repair and rehabilitation of infrastructures. So, the use of FRP based composite materials is set to increase further to meet demands for improvements in all construction processes.

In this new edition all the chapters have been brought fully up-to-date to take on board the key aspects mentioned above. The chapters cover all areas relevant to advanced FRP composites from the material itself, its manufacturing, properties, testing and applications in structural and civil engineering. The applications span from civil engineering, buildings to the energy industry.
