The Adagia compose the two 'ordo' in the canon of scripts of Erasmus.
The arrangement of the 'ordines' was compiled by Erasmus himself in his letters written to Botzheim and Boece to publish his work.
A selected committee was composed to publish the Adagia, conducted by Professor Dr. F. Heinimann. With the publication of this volume, the 4151 Adagia comprehended work, existing of 8 volumes is completed.

The text is accompanied by notes in German that trace Erasmus' sources and give linguistic, historical, philological and, where appropriate, theological background information which elucidates the text and Erasmus' way of working.
