Gallop into an exciting new world of warrior unicorns, feuding witches and brave friends

Lily wants nothing more than to qualify for the Pony Club championship, but her training is in jeopardy from the moment she hears a curious sound under the stars. It reveals an impossible sight: battle-ready unicorns appearing out of thin air.

When the unicorn king asks her to hide his herd from an evil sorceress, she can't turn her back on the animals in need... Somehow she'll make time alongside training her pony, school and native herb lessons with her Maori grandmother.

Lily calls on her friends to share the terrifying responsibility. If they fail, their mythical new friends will be forced to fight a deadly war...

Can Lily use her wits and the power of her Maori heritage to preserve the unicorns' freedom?

Lily and the Unicorn King is the first book in an edge-of-your-saddle middle grade fantasy series. Ride into the adventure today

Contributor Bio(s): Gordon, Kate: - "Kate Gordon spent 90% of her childhood reading books about horses and ponies. The other 10% of the time she was galloping around the garden on one of her imaginary horses or saving up pocket money to go pony trekking. Thank goodness her parents were able to arrange for her to ride a friend's elderly pony - at last Kate had a pony of her own! Kate's love of horses and books remained strong, so with a few years of writing experience behind her, she thought she'd try her hand at writing the sort of adventurous horse story she would have loved as a child. She didn't expect a herd of warrior unicorns to gallop into the adventure, but she managed to (just) keep hold of the storyline long enough for Lily and the Unicorn King to come to life. Writing a book is not easy, but Kate's already working on the next book, Sasha and the Warrior Unicorn. She apologises in advance to family and friends for being lost in her imaginary world much of the time and talking about unicorns far too often. Kate lives among the mountains of Central Otago in New Zealand's South Island with her husband, three dogs and two cats."
