Publisher Description:
The History of Parliament is the official history of the British House of Commons from 1386 to 1830, compiled by leading scholars and containing full biographies of all members, constituency surveys, and introductory surveys by period. It runs in print form to twenty-three large volumes--a total of some 16,200 pages or 13 million words. This CD-ROM makes available the complete set of volumes as printed, along with illustrations not included in the print version, many of them in color, and scanned in high-quality resolution to appear in separate illustration windows with full captions within the CD-ROM--historical shots of parliamentary buildings, portraits of speakers in the House of Commons, manuscripts and other parliamentary documents. The CD-ROM includes lists of members in each parliamentary session never previously reproduced and additional corrigenda never included in the printed volumes--all in a form that allows the user to search either freely or by designated fields; to annotate and save material; to print out pages; and to view different parts of the text concurrently on screen. Whether as a stand alone CD-ROM or as a networkable library resource, this disk provides ready electronic access to a major work of historical scholarship. It runs on PC Windows or Macintosh systems.
