After graduating from Columbia in 1900, he wrote under the pen name "Henry Second," and made contributions to the "Atlantic Monthly" and other magazines. His novels include "Queed" (1911) which was very well received; "Angela's Business" (1915); "When I Come Back" (1919); "Saint Cecilia" (1922); and "Marriage" (1923), a volume of short stories. He's often referred to as a social critic, but the plain fact is that he was a delightful storyteller: the reason this novel, "Queed," was so well received is that it's a joy to read. |
