Bunyon wrote this book while being imprisoned for preaching without a license. This confinement lasted 12 years. Life and Death of Mr. Badman was published in 1680 and is the account of small town life in the 1600"s. Badman is a greedy lustful storekeeper caught up in the values and mythology of 17th-century Puritan society. This dark novel is described by the author as "the Life and Death of the Ungodly and their travel from this world to Hell."
