Publisher Description:
This book follows the journey of my father, MIT graduate, nuclear scientist, aeronautical engineer, marathon runner, inventor, and adventurer, as he came to the realization that the use of nuclear power is leaving deadly waste behind with no solution for its safe disposal. Our family lived in Richland, Washington, next to Hanford, the largest radioactive waste site on the continent. My father faced the fact that the public and the scientists had been lied to by the Atomic Energy Commission and Department of Energy over an expanse of 30 years. As an engineer at the Hanford Reservation in 1952, he and his colleagues believed they were patriots, as the United Sates raced to build its nuclear arsenal and. After the bomb-building slowed down, my father worked developing safe nuclear power. When he found out about the lies and coverups perpetrated by our government and its agencies, it became impossible for him to continue to promote nuclear power as a safe form of energy. He became one of the country's first proponents of solar power and dedicated his life to educating people about its benefits, in the hopes of helping to slow down global warming. Throughout his life he followed his moral compass, striving to make the planet a place where his grandchildren can grow up. His love for adventure made life in our family fun and full of exciting opportunities.
