Publisher Description:

Should you have a trust as part of your estate plan?

Maybe you've heard things like, "everyone needs a trust," "you need a trust to protect your assets," "you need a trust to save taxes," or "you need a trust to avoid probate."

But do you really need one? Why? What kind of trust? What does it do? How does it work? Is it worth the cost in time and money?

Would you like to be well-informed and confident before you meet with an attorney?

With this book you'll discover:

  • what trusts can, and cannot, do for you

  • some of the different types of trusts and why they're used

  • whether a trust may be right for you

  • how to weigh the costs and benefits of setting up a trust

In this second volume in the Savvy Client series, attorney Mary L. Barrow, author of Estate Planning for the Savvy Client: What You Need to Know Before You Meet With Your Lawyer, answers your questions about trusts in a practical, easy-to-understand way, just as she has done for her clients and students. With a handy list of questions to point you in the right direction, this book will help you consider whether a trust may be right for you--before you meet with your lawyer.

The Savvy Client is you

Contributor Bio(s): Barrow, Mary L.: - Mary L. Barrow has been an attorney for more than 30 years. She has a BA from Brown University and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania law school. For many years she practiced estate planning, probate, and trust law, in three different states, both as a partner in a large law firm and as the principal of a boutique trusts & estates firm. She has helped numerous clients to define their goals and objectives, and then implement those wishes as simply and efficiently as possible through their estate plans. In 2009 the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of South Carolina Beaufort asked the author to create a course for its members on the topic of trusts. She was delighted to teach the resulting course for a number of years, and enjoys speaking to groups of non-lawyers on estate planning topics. She is also the author of Estate Planning for the Savvy Client: What You Need to Know Before You Meet With Your Lawyer, the first book in the Savvy Client Series.
