Publisher Description:

The Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm) are located in the southern English Channel at a geographic crossroads between colder seas from the north and warmer waters to the south. This has made the islands suspectable to an unusually large number of non-native marine species from the wider English Channel, North Sea and the Bay of Biscay. This book assesses the current and historic occurrence of over 130 non-native marine species in the Channel Islands and horizon scans for species reported from neighbouring regions. This information has been analysed to define the behaviour, rate of spread and threats posed by each of these species and to make basic observations and recommendations regarding their current and future status within the Channel Islands. This book provides a useful introduction to non-native marine species in the Channel Islands area and to the issues associated with them. It also provides a baseline for future studies of non-native marine species within the English Channel region.

Features of this book include:
- Individual entries for 130+ regional non-native marine species.
- A summary of current research and results for the Channel Islands.
- Over 250 photographs, illustrations and maps, mostly in colour.
- A threat assessment for each of the non-native species listed.
- A general introduction to marine non-native species issues.
