Publisher Description: This series of essays, conference papers and articles explores the boundary of conservation science and shamanism through the practice of rewilding. The book follows the author's seminal work Beyond Conservation (Earthscan, 2005) and Rewilding (Ethos,2011) and presses upon the boundary of conservation thinking, arguing that science-based approaches must be complemented by due respect for the indigenous and shamanic perceptions of nature. Taylor argues that modern scientific perceptions of nature represent a destructive paradigm and that a recovery of an original or indigenous consciousness long-damaged by repression in European history is required to reverse current trends of loss. |
