The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America states that we are "One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and Justice for all." The Declaration of Independence states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness." The Constitution of the United States opening words are: "We the People of the United States, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States."

Do the words of these prominent documents from which we get our foundational structure and being as a nation, truly depict the heart and soul of this nation? Are we really a nation of equality and freedom for all, or do these words apply to a select few?


Contributor Bio(s): Thornton, James: - JAMES THORNTON was born in a small town in lower Alabama. He is a son of a farmer. The discipline that he received from his father placed a demand on him to impact others. He served his country in the navy and the army. It was in the navy where he met his lovely wife Nathelee of forty-six years. They have four children and five grandchildren. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Minnesota Graduate School of Theology. He is currently an Associate Pastor at Northview Christian Church, Dothan, Alabama under the dynamic leadership of Pastor Hart Ramsey. Mr. Thornton's desire in life is to know Jesus more. It is in knowing Him, one discovers purpose for coming to earth.
