Contributor Bio(s): Houts, Amy: - Amy Houts has created 10 cooperative games with seasonal and holiday themes to teach young children important concepts and social skills. In addition to games, Amy has authored more than 70 books, both fiction and nonfiction, for children in grades ranging from preschool through high school. Amy wrote hundreds of articles as a features writer and reporter for the local newspaper, the Nodaway [County] News Leader. Her numerous stories, articles, and poems appear in publications such as Ladybug, American Profile, and upcoming in Highlights Hello. Amy has garnered awards from the Missouri Writers' Guild, Moonbeam Children's Book, and Creative Child Magazine. She is a longtime member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators and the local chapter of the Missouri Writers' Guild. Observing children when she taught preschool at Head Start and as a graduate assistant in the Early Childhood Department of Northwest Missouri State University has helped her to write authentically. For seven years, Amy taught the course "Writing for Children & Teenagers" through the Institute of Children's Literature. Earning a B.S. in library science from Northwest Missouri State University honed Amy's skills at in-depth research. |
