Publisher Description: Anna Filameno's 'So You Wanna be Italian?' is a unique experience. Actress/writer Anna Filameno takes you on a journey of self-discovery as she explores her roots through vignettes written in a style which lives between poetry and prose. Through a tour-de-force of powerful images and experiences, sometimes dreamlike, sometimes biographical, you learn the potent force Italian figures such as Valentino, Fellini, Sinatra, Anna Magnani, Aradia 'le strega' and many others had on the life of this brilliant artist. Anna's passionate work explores her relationship to her roots through these historic Italian figures and inspires each of us to do the same in our own lives. "Who am I?" I thought... "And how do I find the pieces of myself that I have lost along the way?" Each page has a beautiful background graphic art illustration that helps tell the story of each vignette. "I begin with the Storytellers and Dreamers..."

Contributor Bio(s): Filameno, Anna: - Anna Filameno was born in Little Italy in The Bronx. She has been acting since she was seven years old. During her late teens she travelled with an Agit Prop theater group, which brought her to many parts of the country. She was with The Players Guild in New York City, Karamu Theater in Cleveland, Ohio and the Apple Street Playhouse in New Orleans. After a long separation from her roots, she began a personal odyssey that brought her to a revelation that she is deeply rooted in her heritage. From this she began writing about her experience and through these vignettes she has been given new insights into the Italian spirit. Anna was committed to her belief in the human spirit, her imagination and her love for her own emotional liberation. When she is not acting or writing she spent inspiring afternoons with her granddaughter Sofia Rose. |
