Publisher Description:

This book is a tribute to the author's mother, Annie Pearl, who was the eldest of eleven children. They grew up on a rural farm in Alabama in the 1930s. The names and the setting are real. The rest is an imaginary day that might have happened one summer when Annie Pearl was left in charge.

Chaos ensues as soon as the door closes behind their mother. The children scatter to do everything their mother told Annie not to let them do. Annie rushes from room to room to stop the misbehavior, the baby begins to cry, and the other children stay one step ahead of her. Will Annie restore order before their mother returns?

This story takes us back to a time when families were larger, life was very different, and children were as mischievous then as now.

To help children understand what life was like for Annie Pearl and her family, the author includes a question and answer section geared to young children at the end of the book.
