The story begins with the rape of Tamar (Absalom's sister) by Amon his half brother. Absalom avenges her violation by killing his half-brother. He then goes into exile. King David after a period of time, and spurred by one of his principal generals, agrees to let Absalom return to Jerusalem, but shuns him. Absalom forces a reconciliations. Later sensing his aging Father's decline, schemes to replace him as king. When he seizes the throne, David flees the capital and arranges a climactic battle in the wood of Ephraim. In that battle Absalom is killed and David weeps for him. Tamar flees Jerusalem and describes the consequences of killing Absalom for David and for Israel
