Publisher Description:
In the winter of 1948, at a freezing height on a lonely stretch above the rugged Laurentian mountains in Southern Quebec, a cargo plane carrying a load of plutonium, destined for the U.S., was buffeted by a severe storm throwing it way off-course. The ice buildup on the wing's leading edge was causing the plane to lose altitude as the co-pilot's maydays went unanswered. A short break in the storm allowed the pilot to spot a possible landing site. When the flight did not show up on schedule, and because of the nature of the on-board cargo, a massive search was initiated along the possible flight path, but nothing was found-had the plane crashed or had it been hijacked? Twenty-two years later, a pilot in a float plane flying through the Laurentians spots possible wreckage. A rescue team was sent to investigate. On arrival, they cordoned off the area and then painstakingly worked their way into the pilot's and crew's compartments. To their surprise, they saw that there were no remains. They then turned their efforts to the cargo bay and, when opened, saw that the plutonium container was missing. The mystery reopened with two unanswered questions. What happened to the crew and where is the plutonium?
