Publisher Description: Chick Bruns was just an everyday soldier during WWII, doing his part to defeat the evil of that time. Little did he know that his parents were keeping all the letters he wrote home which were not discovered by the author until Chick moved from his lifelong home in Champaign, IL upon retirement. This book shares the 210 letters home during Chicks journey through Europe. Surviving 5 invasions: North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Anzio and Southern France. These letters show the love he had for his parents and the need to make them feel as though he was not in danger and would be home soon.Serving with the Army's 3rd Division, which saw some of the longest & fiercest combat during the war, Chick was part of A Company in the 10th Combat Engineers. Laying & extracting mine fields, building bridges under fire and setting demolitions were just a part of what his job entailed. Chick Also kept a Diary and took pictures throughout his tour in Europe. A few of the pictures are contained in the book. The Diary and photos will be published in an upcoming book. |
