After meeting Darwin he wrote Outlines of Cosmic Philosophy which was popular in the US and Europe. By 1880 his interests turned to American History, which he viewed through evolutionary theory. Fiske specialized in Colonial and Revolutionary history. Fiske gave three lectures at the Royal Institute in Britain. The lectures discuss the relationships of politics and the maneuvering done by politicians. Fiske discusses in detail American politics. These lectures struck a chord with the American people and inspired them.
