Previously, he served as the lead electrical test engineer for the Navistar High Performance Truck series. A former truck and automobile technician, Bell transitioned to automotive engineering after graduating from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology. He is an ASE Master Truck L2 Technician and Master Automobile Technician, as well as an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), with a focus on HD-OBD. A prolific inventor, he holds 14 U.S. patents related to truck electrical and electronic features.
