Publisher Description:
1902. Illustrated. Books on Egypt and Chaldaea, Vol. X of the Series. A History of Egypt From the End of the Neolithic Period to the Death of Cleopatra VII. B.C. 30. Volume II. Egypt Under the Great Pyramid Builders. E. A. Wallis Budge was the Curator of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum from 1894 to 1924. Budge is perhaps best known for translating The Egyptian Book of The Dead (also known as The Papyrus of Ani), as well as analyzing many of the practices of Egyptian religion, language and ritual. He was also involved in numerous archaeology digs in Egypt, Mesopotamia and the Sudan. The narrative begins with an account of Egypt and her people in the latter part of the Neolithic Period, and ends with the description of her conquest by the Romans under Caesar Octavianus, B.C. 30. The history of Egypt as an independent country properly ends with the death of Cleopatra, for this great queen was the last of the independent monarchs who succeeded to the throne of the Pharaohs.
