Publisher Description: Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Polish Americans have been a part of Chicago's culture landscape since 1837 and the area is the largest part of Polonia, or people of Polish descent living outside Poland, in the United States. Polish Americans now make up over 182,000 of the population in Chicago. Parades, museums, cathedrals and neighborhoods in Chicago celebrate the pride of ethnicity that exists with Polish Americans of the area today. This book explores the history of immigration from Poland to the Chicago area, the extensive Polish Roman Catholic community and famous people who are both Polish and from Chicago. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge. |
