Publisher Description:
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online.

The immune system is a system of biological structures and processes within an organism that protects against disease by identifying and killing pathogens and tumor cells. Microorganisms or toxins that successfully enter an organism will encounter the cells and mechanisms of the innate immune system. The innate response is usually triggered when microbes are identified by pattern recognition receptors. The adaptive immune system evolved in early vertebrates and allows for a stronger immune response as well as immunological memory, where each pathogen is "remembered" by a signature antigen. This book studies the elements of innate and adaptive immune systems including inflammation, mast cell, T cell, and T helper cell.

Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge.
