Illustrated with 100 drawings by Seton, this was his first book, originally published in 1896. Ernest Thompson Seton (1860-1946), was a naturalist and author, who trailed and hunted in Manitoba's prairie country during the 1890s. He wrote and illustrated Wild Animals I Have Known (1898) and other animal stories, favorites with young readers since. To provide children with opportunities for nature study, he founded the Woodcraft Indians (1902) and later was chairman of the committee that established the Boy Scouts of America. |
