Publisher Description: Mary Augusta Ward (1851 -1920) was a British novelist who wrote under her married name Mrs. Humphry Ward. She read French, German, Italian, Latin and Greek. Mary Augusta Ward began her career writing articles for magazines while working on a book for children that was published in 1881 titled Milly and Olly. Her novels expressed strong religious values and Victorian morals. In 1908 she helped found the Women's National Anti-Suffrage League. Eleanor has the theme of Catholic verses humanistic ideals. The novel was later made into a play by the author. |
