Publisher Description:
Home to the largest medieval gothic cathedral north of the Alps, York is one of Europe's most historically interesting cities. However, there is still more to be discovered - much that is shrouded in mystery and that has been kept secret. This clandestine aspect of York's history has been difficult to unearth and, for that reason, it is not always included in standard histories or guides to the city. Join author Paul Chrystal on an exciting and dramatic journey through the cobbled streets of this picturesque city as he exposes and unravels some of the more arcane aspects of York's chequered past.

Contributor Bio(s): Chrystal, Paul: - Paul Chrystal was educated at the Universities of Hull and Southampton where he took degrees in Classics and wrote his MPhil thesis on attitudes to women in Roman love poetry. He has been history advisor for a number of York tourist attractions and is the author of many books on a wide range of subjects, including histories of northern places focussing on Yorkshire, social histories of tea, chocolate and confectionery and various aspects of classical literature and Roman history. Paul lives near York and is married with three grown up children.
