Publisher Description: This is a partial translation, from the Farsi, of a lengthier work entitled Ayn al-Vaqayi, the third of twelve works in Bahr al-Fava'id: Kuliyat-i Riyazi. The work was lithographed in Mashhad, Iran, in 1908. The work is one of the few accounts written by Durrani Afghans about events in Harat in the 1800's, and the only known Farsi work written by a Shi ite Iranian of Durrani Ancestry. The author was the son of a Saduza'i Durrani Afghan who was employed for a time in the court of Harat. This translation is of the first 91 pages, from the beginning of the work, from about 1793 A.D., and the death of Timur Shah, ruler of the Durrani Sultanate, to 1865 A.D. It includes a description of the revolt of Hasan Khan Salar, Governor General of Qajar Khurasan, with digressions on Payandeh Khan, and his descendants. Descriptions of other events, probably taken from newspapers, are also present, notably news of the American Civil War, European news, and some comments on Baha'is. |
