I have spared my readers the hypocrisy of flowery verses in this chapbook. If this offends, I'll not apologize, because to do so would insult the memory of those who fell on those islands and to those who fall daily as their time runs out in service to humankind. Fear no more the mortar's blare, See no more the star shell's flare - Rest beneath your comrade's prayer And let the ash become the dust, Because the battle's ceased And for you, the war is over. |
