Publisher Description:
Over the past two decades, American society as reflected by politics and media have attempted to depict racial minorities in more diverse roles, and less by traditional stereotypical. The reality still exist that stereotypes persist because sufficient statistics seem to support some aspects of racial stereotypes. For example, blacks are seen as being more violent than other races, and they are disproportionately represented in our nation's prisons for the commission of violent crimes. George Zimmerman (a Hispanic Jew who is classified as a white man) claimed he shot and killed Travon Martin (an African-American teen) because he was afraid this black guy was going to kill him. Stereotypes remain and too many people needlessly die due to the political, economic and security parameters of racial discrimination and racism.
